I like to look pretty as much as the next girl, but I’m not so interested in paying the price. I have a very hard time spending money on vanity items. This is why I cut & color my own miserable hair… salons are too expensive!
Now, I’m not saying I let my barn go unpainted. My big, round face needs a certain amount of makeup in order to appear human. But I always find myself cringing at the cost of makeup as I toss it into my basket. And since I absolutely cannot go without makeup (that would just be cruel to my family), I try to make it last as long as humanly possible.
Mascara Tip
Do you have any idea how much mascara is still in the tube when it dries out? A lot! So basically, you pay for a tube of mascara that you will only be able to use about 30% of before it dries up. Not acceptable, I say! When your mascara is starting to dry out and get a little clumpy, add one small drop of warm water to it and mix it around with the wand. This will return it back to its original consistency for another week or so. Doing this will allow you to use nearly all of the mascara in the tube. I had been using the same tube of mascara for 16 months using this trick! I finally had to throw said tube of mascara out because the seal actually got brittle and broke since I had it so long. If that wouldn’t have happened, who knows… I’d still probably be using it!
For obvious reasons, this trick does not work on waterproof mascaras! Believe me, I’ve tried.
Eyeshadow Tip
Over the years, I have found little difference between the quality of inexpensive eyeshadows and those that are more costly. They all seem to require several passes to reach the desired depth of color, and they gradually fade as the day passes by. So I have come up with a little trick, it’s kinda strange, but works like a charm. Before applying any eyeshadow, take a tube of chap stick and apply a small amount to the desired eye area with the tip of your finger. I know this sounds bizarre.. but trust me, it works! Then apply your eyeshadow as normal over the chap stick. You will find that the chap stick allows you to achieve a deep color with just one coat, and it will last the entire day! Best part is… you can use the cheapest least expensive brands (I get mine from the dollar store) and get a gorgeous finish every time! And don’t worry, I’ve been doing this for years and have never once gotten a pimple on my eye from the chap stick… in case you were wondering.

I use Monistat’s anti-chafe gel as a primer. Works great, and is a fraction of the price of the Smashbox stuff I used before.
I actually have noticed a big difference in eye shadows. Drug store brands do take more passes for me than MAC or the like. However, I’m cheap. I buy the drug store brand on sale with coupons and just go through it faster than I do MAC. (I love MAC. *drool, preeeetty colors…*)
thanks… good tips :’D
Great tips! Another one I learned years ago is to put some foundation on your lips and then apply your lipstick. The lipstick will stay on longer. That being said, remember to check before you leave the house, going out with foundation on your lips without the lipstick will really make you stand out!!! LOL
I’ll tell my wife about this, thanks for your information….
That mascara tip is genious! I need to try this! I always hate how it runs out so fast, so I’m definitely going to try this tip! Thank you!
LOVE these tips 😉 i read somewhere that you should throw your make up out after using for 3 – 6 months. um, excuse me! ha! i keep my make up forever!!
i have waterproof mascara so not even gonna try that trick just yet. will try the chap stick though
Love these tips. I’ve been known to do the mascara one too. But the Chap stick one is the best ever, and I can’t wait to to try it. THANKS!
