Well I’ve gotta start by saying that the Kettle Club has really helped me keep God’s word first. Although, I must admit that I did have some mornings where I checked on my babies (sick babies I’m praying for) before doing my devotions. But, overall, this reminder to spend time with Jesus first has been a huge blessing.
I am currently teaching my kids about creation in science, so we’ve been reading Genesis together. For my personal time with God, I have been focusing on the book of Proverbs because I really NEED wisdom right now. I’m going through a season of change, and I am seeking His wisdom on what path to take next.
It’s funny, I turned to Proverbs seeking wisdom only to find that my heart was yearning for righteousness.
I have read Proverbs countless times, but the Lord has been faithful to give me something new out of His word each time. God knows just what our hearts need, doesn’t He? There is one verse that keeps coming back to me day after day…
Proverbs 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. KJV
I looked up the word dross in the dictionary – worthless, rubbish, or mineral waste.
God has been wiping away the layers of dross, the rubbish I have allowed to collect in my spirit over the years. Wrong motives, preconceived notions, hypocrisies, doubts: He has exposed them. He has been laying them out for me to see. And with each passing of the cloth (His Word), He wipes away a little more of the dross.
Someday, I might be revealed as a vessel for the finer, a vessel of silver.
