Okay darling truffles, I fell off the Random Acts of Kindness Wagon for a few weeks.
Good news is… I finally completed Week 3 Challenge – you know, the one about the gift card & little Johnny. Yeah, I did it.
It did not go over so well.
I was at WalMart in the middle of the afternoon with gift card in hand and I realized something I hadn’t thought of before – lots of mommies have more than 1 child! How can I hand a gift card to a kid with a sibling standing right next to them? Umm, easy… I can’t!
So I immediately started stalking the aisles for a 1 child situation. There were none to be had. I was about to give up and go home when I spotted a man walking into the toy section with his son. Yay, I thought. Target acquired.
My kids and I nonchalantly wandered over in their direction.
My 8 year old daughter wanted to be the gift bearer, so I gave her the gift card and she went over and handed it to little Johnny. The man looked at me and I quickly explained it was a simple random act of kindness and that we wanted his little boy to use it to get himself something.
I smiled and waited for the applause.
This man looked at me as if I had offended his manhood. He took the gift card from his son’s little hands and explained that they will use it to do something nice for someone else.
Then he gave me the “You May Leave Now” smile.
And so I did. With my tail tucked between my legs and ears folded down closely to my head like a dog in trouble for peeing on the floor, I walked away in defeat.
Win some – lose some!
2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. KJV
I’ll post this week’s challenge later tonight. I gotta come up with something non-confrontational… for the sake of my fragile self esteem.
