It’s a New Year and like so many other people, I set a few goals for myself. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got some serious growing to do! I try to set realistic goals that, with a little bit of determination, can easily be reached.
I recently read about a different approach to all of this goal setting nonsense. As I was reading I thought, “Of course! What a great idea and yet so simple!” It was one of those forehead slapping moments.
The idea is this…. one word. That’s it, one simple little word that you are going to focus on for 12 months. You channel your energy into growing in this one area, with one word to guide you. Simple, right? Ah… wrong! Do you have ANY idea how many words are in the English language! And now I have to pick the right one!
So, I got my Bible and started flipping through the pages, and reading all the verses that I’ve underlined over the years while praying for some inspiration. Then I came to I Corinthians 13 and that’s when I found it. It became so obvious! My one word was practically shouting at me! And that one word is… CHARITY.
To some people charity is helping voluntarily or offering donations. But to God charity is love. I Corinthians 13 says that all our kindness, wisdom, and sacrifices are nothing if not done in love.
So this year I’m going to focus on loving the Lord with all my heart, mind, and soul. I’m going to endeavor to face the good or the bad, the easy or the difficult, the lovable or the unlovely with charity in my heart and on my lips.
